This note-taking system is based on research spanning cognitive science and artificial intelligence. It is based on the concept of cognitive frames, mental structures that distinguish relevant signals from noise, and draws on work by information scientists about how information is chunked, remembered, and used in decision-making. The notebook’s layout and features are designed to provide a strong informational structure that supports comprehension, recall, and the generation of new ideas, while also avoiding traditional note-taking formats that lack empirical support. Piloted with students, lawyers, journalists, and creative writers, its effects become visible when users review their notes. A physical version of the notebook has been produced with attention to research-informed details, such as page count and paper color, as well as affordability and environmental sustainability, using certified sustainable materials with a proportion of recycled content.
